Cipher case: More witnesses to record statements today

A special court will resume hearing the cipher case against former Prime Minister Imran Khan and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in Adiala Jail on Tuesday.

The hearing will be presided over by Judge Abu Alhasnaat Zulqurnain inside the jail compund.

The Federal Investigation Agency team reached Adiala Jail early on Tuesday along with six witnesses in the case.

Reports said that statements from three witnesses have been recorded so far in the case.

The case, registered under the Official Secrets Act, accuses Khan of illegally retaining and communicating the contents of a classified cipher written by Pakistan’s ambassador in Washington.

Qureshi, who was foreign minister under Khan, is charged with abetting Khan in the crime.

Aleema Kha, Uzma Khan, Noreen Khanum and Shahvaiz Khan arrived at the Adiala Jail for the hearing as well. The court had allowed the accused’s families to attend the proceedings at the last hearing.
