Another Civil Hospital Quetta paramedic dies of Congo virus

Another paramedic of Civil Hospital died on Friday in Quetta after contracting the Congo virus, an official said.

Haji Ghaffar Achakzai, a member of the paramedical staff, was moved to Fatima Jinnah General & Chest Hospital where he was under treatment, an official of the hospital said.

This brings the total number of deaths from the Congo virus in Balochistan to 19 in the ongoing year. So far, 64 people have been diagnosed with Congo virus in Balochistan, sources in the hospital said.

It is pertinent to mention that 15 medical staff including 10 doctors of Civil Hospital Quetta have been infected with the tick-born virus.

Earlier, Caretaker Chief Minister of Balochistan Mir Ali Mardan Domki said that a total of 13 people, including nine doctors and two members of medical staff were currently under treatment in Karachi.

Meanwhile, the Caretaker CM of Sindh Maqbool Baqar has directed the health department to issue an alert in the border areas of Sindh.

A spokesperson said that CM Baqar directed to expedite the monitoring in Dadu, Shahdadkot, and Jacobabad while ensuring fumigation and precautionary measures.

He also directed the health and livestock department to monitor the cattle markets and animals in these areas. CM Baqar expressed concerns that the arrival of Congo patients from Balochistan through Dadu could likely spread the virus in the city.
