Despite the efforts from authorities in Punjab’s capital, Lahore remained the most polluted in the world with Air Quality Index showing a reading of over 400.
At the commencement of the day, AQI city rankings showed Lahore on top with a reading of 451.
The AQI is based on the measurement of air pollutants including ozone, Nitrogen dioxide, Sulfur dioxide, and Carbon monoxide.
An AQI of 0-50 is considered good while a reading above 100 is termed unhealthy for those with pulmonary issues. Anything between 301-500 is considered “hazardous.”
The smoke produced by burning crop remnants, factories and burning coal, garbage, oil or tyres enters the atmosphere and as a result, the air becomes polluted, the impact of this appears at the onset of winter and remains till the season’s end.
As Lahore suffers from smog every winter, the government has been taking measures to address the seasonal smog and cracking down against those who were the reason for making the air dirty.
The authorities, by using safe city cameras, arrested drivers whose vehicles were spreading smoke in the city. The spokesperson said they were also taking action against those who were burning garbage.

The spokesperson appealed to the people to take part in dealing with the issue of smog which prevented the children from going to school, as the educational institutes in Punjab have been closed until November 9.
“All parks will remain closed from Friday till Sunday,” the notification stated.
