Imran Khan approaches SC for bail in cipher case

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan approached the Supreme Court to grant him bail in the cipher case on Friday.

Filed through Salman Safdar, the bail application says that the cipher case is an extension of ‘politically motivated cases’ against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman.

The bail application also asks the Supreme Court to consider if the Federal Invesitgation Agency’s malafide motives are not apparent in the cipher case. The petition also mentions the foreign funding case as evidence of FIA’s malafide intent.

Khan’s bail in the case has already been rejected by the trial court as well as the Islamabad High Court.

The case charges Khan with illegally communicating and retaining a classified cable written by Pakistan’s ambassador in Washington.

The former PM’s petitions against jail trial have also been rejected by the Islamabad High Court.

Khan was arrested in the cipher case from Attock Jail on August 29. All hearings in the cipher case have so far been held inside the jail compound.
