PIA crisis continues as over 50 more flights delayed

Pakistan International Airlines flights continued to face delays and cancellations on Sunday despite an agreement to resume fuel supply by the Pakistan State Oil.

Reports said that more than 50 flights had to be cancelled on Sunday includign both domestic and international flights.

However, a positive development came when flights between Islamabad and Gilgit were resumed after reports surfaced that dozens of tourists had been stranded in the northern areas.

The resumption of flights to Gilgit reportedly came after Tourism Minister Wasi Shah took notice of the matter.

On Saturday, reports had emerged that PIA and PSO had reached an agreement to solve the crisis. The reports said that the airline had pledged to pay Rs1.35 billion within a week for oil it had already purchased.

The crisis began after PIA defaulted on its payments for September and OCtober and consumed Rs15 billion credit facility. With no fuel, hundreds of flights had to be cancelled or delayed.
