Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa has summoned a meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council to discuss complaints against judges on Friday.
The SJC includes the two seniormost judges of the Supreme Court, currently Justice Tariq Masood and Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan, as well as CJ Lahore High Court Muhammad Ameer Bhatti and CJ Balochistan High Court Naeem Afghan.
The SJC meeting is schduled for 11:30 am on Friday where complaints against judges will be considered. Reports said that over two dozen complaints are pending.
The pending complaints include those against Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan and Justice Mazahar Naqvi. Several complaints were filed against judges who have now retired from service.
Earlier this year, Justice Isa, who was then a senior puisne judge, had written to Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial to call a meeting of the SJC. However, Justice Bandial did not call a meeting.
The SJC is the only forum that can hear complaints against judges and recommend their removal. However, no judge has been removed through the council in the court’s history.
