Jail officials refuse to let Imran speak to sons

Adiala Jail’s superintendant has refused to allow former Prime Minister Imran Khan to speak to his sons via telephone from jail.

The jail superintendant submitted his reply on a request from Imran Khan in Judge Abu Alhasnaat Zulquranain’s court on Tuesday. The superintendant said that phone calls are not allowed to people jailed under the Official Secrets Act.

In response, the court asked the superintendant to submit SOPs regarding phone calls from jail by October 18.

Imran Khan is currently in Adiala Jail in the cipher case registerd under the Official Secrets Act. The case accuses him of revealing contents of a ‘classified’ cipher sent when he was prime minister, thus violating the Official Secrets Act.

He was kept in Attock Jail since his arrest in August, but was recently moved to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on the orders of the Islamabad High Court.

Khan’s wife, Bushra Begum, has already filed a request in court alleging that her husband could be poisoned. She has demanded better facilities for the former PM in the petition, including home-cooked food and permission to exercise.
