Special court summons Imran Khan, Shah Mahmood in cypher case on Oct 4

The special court under the Official Secrets Act on the cypher case has summoned PTI Chief Imran Khan and Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi to appear before the court on October 4.

The court directed to produce both the PTI leaders before the court in the cypher case after the Federal Investigation Agency declared the former prime minister and ex-foreign minister as the principal accused in the case.

On September 30, the agency filed a challan (charge sheet) in the special court established under the Official Secrets Act.

Former planning minister Asad Umar was not included in FIA’s accused list while former principal secretary Azam Khan has become FIA’s witness whose statement was attached with the challan, sources said.

As per the challan, the Khan violated the Official Secrets Act by keeping the cypher with him. A copy of the cypher reached Imran Khan but it was never returned, the challan said.

Earlier, the Islamabad High Court reserved its decision on an application filed by the FIA for in-camera hearing of PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s bail plea in the cypher case. It merits here to mention that Khan’s bail application is also fixed for today (Monday).

A day earlier, the FIA filed miscellaneous application to conduct in-camera hearing on the bail application of the PTI chief.
