The 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly will begin on Tuesday. A Pakistani delegation under interim Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar will also attend the session.
The prime minister will address the UNGA on September 22 and will also meet with other world leaders and visit US think tanks.
Kakar has already arrived in the US on a five-day trip and is accompanied by interim Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jillani and other officials.
More than 140 world leaders are expected to be in attendance at the the session where major topics of discussion are expected to include the Ukraine war and climate change.
The theme for this year’s general debate is “Rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability for all”.
The session also provides opportunity for bilateral discussions between countries on the sideline.
Out of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, US President Joe Biden is expected to be the only chief executive in attendance.
