The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted rain and thunderstorms in Karachi on Sunday (today), as moderate monsoon currents from the Bay of Bengal were likely to penetrate in the upper parts of the country.
“The weather will remain hot and humid in most of the districts of the province,” said the PMD in its forecast for Sunday. “However, strong winds/wind and thundershowers are likely to occur in Karachi, Mithi, Tharparkar, Nagarparkar, Umarkot, Mirpur Khas, Khairpur, Thatta, Badin, Sukkur, Dadu and Sanghar. During this time, there is a possibility of heavy rain in some places.”
There are reports that the University of Karachi has postponed students’ week this week.
The PMD has already warned that the prevailing very hot and humid conditions were likely to subside during the spell.
“Wind-thunderstorm may damage loose structures like electric poles, solar panels etc. The general public is advised to stay at safe places during wind-storm/lightning/heavy rains,” the PMD said in its forecast on September 13.
