Amid the government’s crackdown against electricity theft to control electricity shortfall, the police in the Punjab province have been found stealing power to run one of its helpline offices.
In Multan’s Jehanian tehsil, several fans, air conditioners, and other appliances at the police’s Khidmatgar centre and the offices of a traffic license branch were found operating on stolen electricity.
Footage obtained by Aaj News shows the police got a direct connection from an electricity pole without wiring it through an electricity meter.
It was also revealed that the power meter of the police station was not working and did not show a reading of power consumption.
In a recent crackdown, the government found that 8 million units of electricity were being stolen across the country.
At least 94 people have been arrested for alleged involvement in power theft.
