Security on high alert around Attock Jail

Security was on high alert around Attock Jail on Tuesday after the suspension of PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s three-year sentence in the Toshakhana case. Former first lady Bushra Bibi arrived at the jail to meet her husband.

The contingents of law enforcement agencies equipped with anti-riot kits have been deployed at thoroughfares going towards the jail.

Imran Khan remains imprisoned despite the order of Islamabad High Court, which suspended his sentence.

Following the development, Bushra Bibi arrived at the district jail with her team but the police stopped her. Later, they allowed her to go to the jail alone.

On August 5, a trial court in Islamabad sentenced Imran Khan to three years imprisonment in the Toshakhana case filed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) pertaining to concealing details of state gifts.

Shortly after the court had declared Imran guilty of corrupt practices he was arrested from his residence at Zaman Park, Lahore.

Subsequently, Imran filed a petition in the IHC urging to suspension of his imprisonment sentence till the final verdict on his appeal. The court heard the challenging plea on August 9.

The court issued directions to the jail administration to provide the facilities to the former prime minister but declined to suspend his sentence.

On August 28, the IHC had reserved its verdict on Imran petitions and said the verdict would be announced on August 29.
