‘We are not here to design the government’s model,’ says interim PM

Interim Prime Minister Anwaarul Kakar said on Tuesday that his cabinet was not here to redesign the government model and vowed to work in accordance with the constitutional role.

“We are here to continue the constitutional order for a limited period of time, we are not here to design the government’s model or structure,” he said addressing the cabinet.

“Generally we are supposed to carry on with general policies of work until and unless we feel that there was a violation of rules of business have been done previously so we’ll redirect those,” Kakar added.

He added that the caretaker government’s role is to ‘assist and monitor the electoral process’ which is a constitutional requirement. He described the duty as the government’s ‘prime mandate’.

“National assembly is an important arm of the parliament whose tenure has ended and we are waiting for the new elections. The second house of the parliament is the upper house which is the senate and it cannot do legislation till we have a law house,” the interim PM said.

Kakar directed the cabinet members to collect information from their concerned departments and come to meetings with their own work plans under which his cabinet will select weekly agendas and pursue them.
