Former Ruet-e-Hilal Committee chairman Mufti Muneebur Rehman has called for reviewing prison rules after PTI chief Imran Khan expressed concerns over the lack of privacy around his prison cell’s toilet facilities in Attock Jail due to a CCTV camera’s presence.
Rehman in a social media post on X, formerly known as Twitter, said that the state should follow Islamic values.
He added that such kind of treatment cannot be defended while highlighting that if such treatment was meted out to political opponents during the tenure of Khan was also wrong.
Additional Districts and Sessions judge Shafqatullah submitted a report to the court about Khan’s living conditions in the jail.
The facility had “small L-shape walls about 2.5-3 feet high, leaving no privacy” for toilet activities, the report quoted Khan as saying. Due to this, Khan expressed concerns over his privacy while using the toilet or bathing.
The additional district and sessions judge further said in his report that Khan’s complaints were “completely true” and described them as a clear violation of Pakistan Prison Rules.
