Governor approves Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar as Sindh interim CM

Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori approved on Tuesday the appointment of Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar as the caretaker chief minister of Sindh.

“It is therefore requested that approval for the notification of Mr Justice (R) Maqbool Baqar, former judge of the Supreme Court, as caretaker chief minister of Sindh,” said the summary sent to the governor by the chief minister for the appointment.

His appointment was made under Article 224(1A) of the Constitution.

The development comes a day after Anwaarul Haq Kakar was sworn in as the eighth caretaker prime minister of Pakistan on Monday.

Baqar’s name was decided after Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Leader of the Opposition in Sindh Rana Ansar reached a consensus over the name.

Justice Maqbool Baqar is a retired judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Baqar is expected to take oath as the caretaker CM on Tuesday, sources told Aaj News on Monday.

Earlier, Rana arrived at the Chief Minister’s House in Karachi to hold a discussion with outgoing CM Murad for the caretaker setup. The consensus was reached during the meeting.

Aaj News had reported Baqar’s name would be finalised for the interim CM in the province. He will be the eighth caretaker chief minister of Sindh.
