PCB’s video attempts to banish Imran Khan from history

The Pakistan Cricket Board faced strong criticism from fans that were enraged that World Cup-winning captain Imran Khan was removed from a video celebrating the achievements of Pakistan cricket on the occasion of Independence Day.

Former captain of the women’s cricket team and commentator Urooj Mumtaz Khan highlighted the fact that Khan was not mentioned in the video despite showing other players who were part of the team that won the 1992 World Cup.

“Reminiscing in Pakistan crickets history, 11 images of the 1992 World Cup win and not one pic or mention of the greatest that ever played the game for the country!” she wrote on X.

“Imran Khan will go down in history as one of the greats of the global game!” Urooj added.

The video shared by the PCB on X starts with a quote from Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and goes to show Pakistan’s debut in international cricket in 1952, winning the 1992 World Cup, Champions Trophy and the T20 World Cup 2022 where Pakistan was runner-up.

Khan was shown for a split second holding the world cup trophy, which was highlighted by several fans, however, they demanded that the PTI chief should have been given more attention in the video.

The commentators on X, blasted the PCB for not including Khan who is confined in Attock prison after being convicted by a session judge in the Toshakhana criminal case on August 5.

Annus Raza, a commentator called it disgraceful that the PCB did not include the former captain of the Pakistan cricket team.

“Absolutely disgraceful that @TheRealPCB omitted the greatest all rounder Pakistan has ever produced and World Cup winning captain Imran Khan, from this video,” he wrote.

Sports journalist Arfa Feroz Zake said that the national cricket board showed hypocrisy by ignoring to show Khan in the video.

“PCB claims to be a big advocate of not mixing sports with politics and then doesn’t bothers to include the only ICC WorldCup winning captain of Pakistan - The great Imran Khan in the special video of independence day. Such a hypocritical act by PCB!✋Shame!” he wrote.
