Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to auction all gifts in the Toshakhana and use the proceeds for education projects, sources said on Tuesday.
The sources also said that the money would go mainly to charity education institutions and will be used to pay the education expenses for deserving children.
Earlier, Shehbaz had ordered that all gifts in the Toshakhana should be displayed to ensure more transparency about the gifts received by Pakistan’s office holders.
Toshakhana gifts and their posession have been a topic of interest in Pakistan for a long time and the debate over them has intensified as former PM Imran Khan was tried and sentenced for selling gifts and not delcaring them clearly in his tax returns.
