Pak, Iran army chiefs discuss security and bilateral relations

Army Chief General Asim Munir met Iranian’s Mohammad Hossein Bagheri on Saturday to discuss cooperation in multiple areas including border secretary.

Reports said General Bagheri told General Munir that both countries had a history of cooperation on bilateral relations which could be expanded further.

Iran’s Mehr News agency said General Bagheri emphasised “developing military relations between Tehran and Islamabad, calling for increasing the training interactions and joint defense and security relations between the two countries at the regional level.”

The two also discussed enhancing security relations and increasing education and defence related interactions.

General Munir was welcomed to Iran by Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, and also met Major General Hossein Salami, the chief commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.

Munir and Salami also discussed improving trade relations across the shared border.

General Munir is one a two-day visit to Iran. The two neighbors share a 900km border but both sides have complained of secuirty related issues across the border.
