Haji Gulbar Khan was elected leader of the house in Gilgit Baltistan Assembly on Tuesday.
He received a total of 19 votes and was elected unopposed.
Gulbar is part of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf forward bloc and received support from Pakistan People’s Party, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz and Jamiat-e-Ulema (F).
He was elected unopposed after PTI’s ‘hum khayal’ group boycotted the election. The Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen and Islami Tehreek also joined the boycott.
The hum khayal group includes Raja Azam Khan, Raja Zakaria and Javed Manwa.
Gulbar belongs to Diamer and has served as the health minister in the past.
PTI’s Chief Minister Khalid Khursheed was disqualified from holding office earlier this month after a court ruling in a fake degree case.
