NAB decides to arrest ex-CM Buzdar: sources

The National Accountability Bureau’s Lahore office has decided to arrest former Chief Minister Usman Buzdar in a corruption case.

Sources said that the Bureau’s chairman has formally been requested to issue warrantes for Buzdar.

The former chief minister was called for an investigation by the Bureau 14 times but he did not heed the summons.

Sources said that Buzdar will be arrested as per the latest NAB law which was signed by Acting President Sadiq Sanjrani.

NAB has rejected Buzdar’s lawyer’s plea that he cannot appear in the Bureau’s Lahore office. Reports said NAB had even refused to receive the lawyer’s reply.

Buzdar is facing multiple investigations including kickbacks in contracts, assets beyond means and illegal appointments. He is accused of making assets worth over Rs9 billion during his time as chief minister and is also being investigated for fraud in a flour export scheme.
