Climate minister warns of urban flooding as more rain forecast in next 48 hours

Climate Minister Sherry Rehman announced that severe rain impacts including medium floods in rivers and urban flooding in municipal areas could be expected over the next 24-48 hours.

In a tweet posted on Sunday, Sherry Rehman said that Punjab’s cities including Lahore, Narowal and Sialkot were likely to get the highest amount of rain.

In a graphic posted along with the tweet, she said severe thunderstorms were expected in the three cities.

It also added that rivers Chenab, Ravi, Sutlej and associated nullahs could get medium-high levels of flooding.

Meanwhile, Karachi, Tharparker, Sukkur, Larkana, Hyderabad, Badin and Shaheed Benazirabad in Sindh could get thunderstorms and moderate-heavy rainfall.

Bannu, DI Khan, Swat and Balakot in KP are also expected to get thunderstorms and moderate-heavy rain. Rains are also expected to lash Sibbi, Zhob, Kohlu, Qila Saifullah, Khuzdar, Barkhan, Loralai, Kalat, Naseerabad, Dera Bugti and Lasbela in Balochistan.

“Coordinated preparedness and proactive responses saves lives, so all response teams, both public and NGOs in the affected areas need to stay vigilant, ready,” the minister added.
