Federal Investigation Agency arrested the brother of a notorious human trafficker named Asif Suniara in Gujrat on Sunday.
Muhammad Saleem Suniara is accused of being involved sending people from Gujrat to Europe through illegal channels. He had nine cases registered against him in the Agency’s Gujrat circle alone.
Saleem is also accused of sending money via hundi to his brother Asif Suniara, who is the main accused in the Greece Boat tragedy that took the lives of around 400 Pakistani migrants.
Saleem had gone into hiding after the Greece Boat tragedy to avoid arrest and was arrested using ‘modern methods’ according to the agency.
His brother, Asif, is currently said to be hiding in Libya and is allegedly operating safe houses containing migrants waiting to be moved to Europe.
Authorities have initiated a crackdwon against human traffickers across Pakistan in the wake of the Greece Boat tragedy. Authorities have especially targeted areas from where most of the migrants making the ill-fated journey belonged to including Gujrat and Azad Kashmir.
