Inspector General Islamabad Akbar Nasir Khan apologised in the Islamabad High Court on Tuesday for arresting Shireen Mazari in violation of court orders.
“I am ashamed and apologise for the impression of violating court orders,” the IG said during proceedings of a contempt of court case in the court.
The IG said that a team of police from Kohsar Police Station in Islamabad along with Rawalpindi police had gone to Mazari’s house to arrest her.
He added that the police had been told about an MPO order issued by Rawalpindi’s district commissioner on May 17. However, Mazari’s daughter, Imaan, had not told the police that the court had issued orders prohibiting the arrest.
He also the court that he had issued an office order to make sure a similar situation does not arise again.
“I have told police officers to ensure complete compliance with court orders,” he said.
The IG said that disciplinary action had been initiated against the personnel involved in the arrest and show cause notices had been issued to the police incharge, constable and lady constable who were involved in the former PTI leader’s arrest.
He said that the team that arrested Mazari included sub-inspector Haider Ali, Constables Sohail Qureshi, Faisal and Waqas, as well as lady constables Sundus and Marvi.
Shireen Mazari had announced that she would leave PTI as well as active politics after being arrested, released and then re-arrested five times.
