Heatwave-like conditions ‘may develop’ in parts of country this week

Temperature is likely to rise gradually in most parts of the country this week, while heatwave-like conditions may develop in parts of the country, said the Pakistan Meteorological Department on Monday.

“Due to the presence of high pressure in the upper atmosphere, the day temperatures are likely to increase gradually in most parts of the country from June 20 to June 24,” it said.

The Met Office added that day temperatures are likely to remain at 4 degrees centigrade to 6 degrees centigrade above normal in upper and central Punjab, Islamabad, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and 2 degrees centigrade to 4 degrees centigrade above normal in Sindh, South Punjab and parts of Balochistan.

Occasional dust and thunderstorm with rain at isolated places (in pockets) are expected in the plains of the country and hilly areas during the period, it added.

The PMD also informed about the possible Impacts, including a rise in water and power demand due to the rise in temperature in the coming days.

It advised the farmers to manage the watering of crops accordingly and advised the general public to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight.
