MUZAFFARABAD: A jeep carrying tourists plunged into River Neelum on Monday resulting in atleast one death. A rescue operation is still underway to find missing passengers.
The jeep was carrying 14 people, including a local driver and conductor. The 12 tourists travelling in the jeep belonged to Lahore. The incident happened in the Phulwai area.
The rescue operation has so far led to five injured people being recovered including the driver, conductor and three tourists. One dead body has also been found.
The search for the remaining eight tourists is still going on. Army rescue teams are taking part in the operation which is being carried out from both banks of the Neelum River, with locals also lending a hand. However, the the fast flow of water int he river, caused by recent rains, is hampering rescue efforts.
