KARACHI: The restaurant manager at the Mcdonalds Seaview branch was injured when his foot was hit by a stray bullet after a customer opened fire around Suhoor time on Sunday.
SSP South Asad Raza said that a drunk man came to the restaurant with a large rifle and started misbehaving with the staff.
The manager called 15 police emergency helpline but the shooter fled the scene before the police arrived.
The injured manager, Imran Ali, has filed an FIR under section 324 (attempted murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
“I heard gunshots and went outside to check. The security guard was coming towards me, he pointed to a man shooting at the drive-through window,” he said. “A bullet bounced off a wall and hit my right foot as I was trying to go back inside,” he was quoted as saying in the FIR. He said that the shooter fled right away.
The manager, who’s been working at the restaurant for 13 years, said that it’s most likely that the shooter was trying to place an order at the drive-through and opened fire in a fit of rage upon not finding an employee available at the counter as everyone had taken a break to eat sehri.
Imran Ali, 35, has been shifted to a private hospital for medical treatment, while the police are collecting CCTV footage from the spot.
Ten bullet shells have been recovered from the spot, police sources said.
The restaurant has been sealed by authorities and further investigations are underway.
A similar event occurred a day before on Friday night when a major robbery took place at a restaurant on Abdullah Haroon Road, a short distance from the Governor’s House.
Four armed men rode in on motorcycles and robbed dozens of customers sitting and eating at the restaurant. The robbers fled right after.
