Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered that funds be directed towards providing an Rs50 per litre subsidy to people driving bikes, rickshaws and small vehicles upto 800cc on Sunday.
The PM has also ordered an action plan for the subsidy be completed as soon as possible and for all concerned departments to come up with a joint strategy.
The decision came after a meeting of the party’s senior leadership in Lahore, where matters ranging from strategy to counter Imran Khan and inflation were discussed.
The PM said that bikes and small cars are used by low-income segments of society so the subsidy would help to benefit the section of society that needs it most.
He added that the government was doing all it can to ease the pressure of inflation on the public.
Petroleum Minister Mussadiq Malik briefed the meeting on the proposed subsidy and the strategy through which it could be implemented. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar was also present at the meeting.
