Alvi decries ‘revenge politics’, Nawaz tells Imran to show ‘honour’

While Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s supporters continued to clash with police to resist Imran Khan’s arrest late into Tuesday night, President Arif Alvi criticised what he called ‘unhealthy revenge politics’.

“I am deeply saddened by today’s events,” Alvi wrote on Twitter.

Calling the government’s priorities ‘poor’, he added that the the government should be focusing on economic miseries of the people.

Alvi said that he was concerned about the safety of ‘all politicians’.

Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif took to Twitter and described the events of the day as a ‘circus’ that has been arranged due to Imran Khan’s fear of arrest.

“If there was a man with an iota of bravery in him, he would have died of shame,” Nawaz wrote.

He also said that a better man would have left politics instead of being labelled as ‘shameless’ and ‘afraid’.

Police and PTI workers were engaged in a back and forth battle all day outside Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence. The police has been trying to arrest him in the Toshakhana case.
