A complaint was filed against Justice Mazahar Naqvi in the Supreme Judicial Council on Thursday asking for investigation into his assets as well as the recent audio leaks.
The complaint claims alleges that the judge made assets beyond his means and made changes in his tax returns in 2021 to ‘adjust’ the value of a plot of land. The reference has requested a scrutiny of the judge’s assets as well as those of his family.
The reference says that Justice Mazahar’s assets have a value of over Rs3 billion. It also says that the judge owns a one kanal plot in FECHS, a one kanal plot in Supreme Court Housing Society, a two kanal plot in Lahore’s Gulberg and a four kanal plot in Lahore’s St John Garden. He also allegedly owns a plaza in Gujranawala that is not decalred in his assets.
The case was filed by Advocate Mian Dawood who also represented Naveed, the man who allegedly shot Imran Khan in November last year.
The Pakistan Bar Council had decided to file a reference against the judge over the alleged audio leaks between former CM Pervaiz Elahi and his lawyer. In the alleged recording, Elahi is speaking to his lawyer about getting cases fixed before a particular judge of the top court.
Justice Mazahar is also one of the two judges against whom the PML-N has made allegations of ‘bias’ towards the party. The party has asked for the judges to separate themselves from benches hearing cases related to the party.
The judge is also part of the bench which will take up the suo moto notice against the delay in elections for the provincial assemblies in KP and Punjab.
