An injured leopard appeared on Kaghan Road near Kawai in Balakot on Sunday. It is the second such instance of a leopard’s appearance in the same area.
The leopard appeared on the road in the early hours of the morning and a frenzy ensued as people rushed to take photographs with the animal.
Wildlife officials soon appeared on the scene and subdued the leopard using rope, while it still tried to move around.
The leopard was moved to Dhodial Pheasantry Centre where it was discovered that it had sustained injuries on its torso.
SDFO Mumtaz Hussain of the wildlife department told Aaj News that it had yet to be ascertained if the leopard was injured by the fall from the mountain or by a collision from a vehicle.
Leopards are known to make appearances now and then in areas near mountains. Wildlife officials say that destruction and encroachment of habitat often forces these wild cats to move towards human settlements to find food.
