Terrorism will be dealt with firmly, NSC decides

A key meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) reviewed the country’s security and economic situation at the Prime Minister House on Friday and stated the nation stands firm on a unified response to terrorism and no compromise will be made on the nation’s security.

The participants agreed that authorities will put up a united and steadfast response against the rising threat of terrorism in the country. It was also decided that the committee will stay in session till Monday.

The NSC met under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for three hours. All services chiefs, including the Chief of Army Staff Gen Asim Munir as well as ISI-DG Lt General Nadeem Anjum, attended the meeting. From the government side, defense, interior, and information ministers participated.

Participants reiterated that terrorists who do not accept Pakistan’s law are considered to be enemies of the death and will be given a befitting response.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar briefed the meeting on the country’s economic situation, while Hina Rabbani Khar briefed the participants on the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan’s contacts with the government in Afghanistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif decided to summon the NSC session after his meeting with COAS Gen Munir, who called on the prime minister on Thursday.

A day earlier, the Corps Commanders’ conference “resolved to fight against terrorists without any distinction and eliminate this menace as per the aspirations of people of the Pakistan.”
