Pakistan Muslim League-Quad (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said on Monday that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) were planning to table a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi while another option of asking him to get the vote of confidence was also on the cards.
“The parties [PML-N and PPP] might have more options but they have shared the two options with me,” Shujaat said in a statement.
The PML-Q leader while confirming his meetings with PPP co-chairman Asif Zardari and PM Shehbaz Sharif a day earlier, said that the meetings remained positive and that they agreed that future political strategy would be decided jointly.
A day earlier PM Shehbaz Sharif and former president Asif Zardari held separate meetings with Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain to consider the possibility of supporting the PML-N against the PTI.
Chaudhry Shujaat said that the political contacts and meetings would continue for the next 3 to 4 days. He expressed hope that all political issues will soon be resolved amicably.
“Those who do not have sufficient numbers to make a no-confidence motion successful, should try to complete numbers,” he suggested and added that the Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi could stay in his post if he “makes” a decision.
“Some people are bent upon dissolving the assemblies and the others blocking the move,” the PML-Q president said and added that he did not see general elections in the near future.
Chaudhry Shujaat further said that Imran Khan was a wise man. “He [Imran Khan] does not need advice.”
The PML-Q president said that he was in contact with Asif Zardari and Shahbaz Sharif and not with Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).
