At least eight people, including a child, were killed and 15 others injured in a collision between two passenger buses on the Indus Highway near Rajanpur early Monday.
Heavy fog was cited as the reason for the the collision which took place near the Shah Wali area.
One of the passenger buses was traveling from Quetta to Rajanpur while the other bus was going from Peshawar to Karachi.
Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi expressed condolences for the family of those killed. He has sought a report of the incident and ordered legal against those responsible for the accident.
He also ordered for the injured to be provided adequate treatment facilities.
The density of the fog has resulted in some traffic restrictions on regional and national highways and motorways, with the M2 that connects Lahore and Sheikhapura shut down.
The Motorway Police said on Sunday that the Lahore-Multan Motorway from Faizpur to Samundari had also been closed while Lahore-Sialkot Motorway M-11, M5 from Shershah Interchange to Taranda Muhammad Panah and M5 from Shershah to Guddu Interchange were also shut.
The visibility on the Indus Highway of Rajanpur was also reportedly zero.
