Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson Imran Khan said on Tuesday that the PML-Q was on the same page regarding the dissolution of the assemblies, adding that the date for the dissolution of the assembly would be announced before December 20.
A day earlier the PTI had decided to dissolve the Punjab Assembly in the first phase, while the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly would be dissolved in the second phase. after the majority of the party leaders suggested doing so.
The PTI leaders advising Imran Khan were of the view that after dissolving the Punjab Assembly, the federal government should be put on a tester and that the response from the coalition government should be waited for.
Last month, the former premier threatened the PDM-led government to announce the date for the early elections otherwise PTI would dissolve the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), however, had announced holding by-elections in the provinces if the assemblies are dissolved.
Earlier today, a meeting of the PTI members of the assembly was held with party chief Imran Khan in the chair. The PTI members endorsed Imran Khan’s decision to dissolve the assemblies.
The PTI chief during the meeting told the participants that the Punjab assembly would be dissolved during the current month. He said that PML-Q was a key ally and it had been informed about the party decision.
Meanwhile, the PTI has announced to stage sit-in protest at Lahore’s Liberty Chowk either on December 18 or 19.
The party chief also decided to announce a date for the assemblies’ dissolution during the protest.
Sources said that the former PM could announce separate dates for the dissolution of Punjab and KP assemblies.
