An audio conversation, purportedly between Imran Khan’s wife Bushra and his close confidante and former aide Syed Zulfikar Ali Bukhari is doing the rounds on social media.
In the 20-second clip, which has been subtitled in Urdu, Bushra Bibi tells Bukhari that Imran Khan had a few watches. “He told me to hand them over to you…so that you can sell them.”
As Bukhari gives his assent, Bushra tells her that Imran doesn’t use those watches.
Upon this, Bukhari says he will do it while referred to Bushra as murshad. It is a honorific used for a religious teacher in Islam.
Aaj Digital cannot verify the authenticity of the audio.
The watches referred to in this alleged audio are believed to be the ones that Imran received as gifts from foreign dignatiries during his time as prime minister, which were part of the Toshakhana case.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had ruled against PTI chief leader Imran Khan, declaring him ineligible from holding public office under Article 63(i)(p) after announcing its verdict in the Toshakhana reference.
He was accused of misdeclaration of assets, including non-disclosure of receipts from the sale of gifts he received from foreign dignitaries. As a result of the verdict, Imran’s seat in the National Assembly was vacated. The six seats on which he won by-elections shortly after also met the same fate.
The audio leak is the latest in a series of videos and audios of key political personalities that have been uploaded on social media. They include conversations between Imran Khan and his key aides, including conversation regarding the IMF, on how to sell the narrative of the foriegn-sponsored conspiracy, as well as a conversation purportedly between real estate tycoon Malik Riaz and his daughter. In it, the two discuss a diamond ring which had been turned down by the former first lady’s ‘frontwoman’ for not being at par with the then first lady’s stature.
An audio from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) was also leaked, and the alleged hacker offered a ‘treasure trove’ of 8gb of audios for sale before going dark.
