Quetta court sends Azam Swati on 5-day remand

QUETTA: Azam Swati’s woes continued as a district court sent him on a five-day remand in a case regarding critical tweets against military officials on Sunday.

Swati was arrested last Sunday from his house in Islamabad, early in the morning by FIA officials. He was moved to Quetta on Friday as there are five petitions against him in Balochistan.

Swati is being kept in Kuchlak Jail and was produced in the court of magistrate Sattar Bugti. While police sought a 10-day remand, the judge only approved it for five days.

Appearing alongside Swati in court, PTI leader Qasim Suri told the media that the senator was being pursued in baseless cases despite being unwell.

This is Swati’s second arrest for criticising the military. He was arrested in August of this year from his house, after criticising then army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

After the arrest Swati had alleged custodial torture and has been relentlessly made press conferences, statements and even approached the country’s top court to get justice.
