A local court in Lahore remanded former deputy speaker of Punjab Assembly Dost Muhammad Mazari into Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) custody for two days in an alleged land-grabbing case.
Mazari was presented before the judicial magistrate’s court a day after he was arrested. The court had reserved its decision in a plea filed by ACE seeking Mazari’s remand.
The court, after approving the remand, directed ACE Punjab to present the Punjab Assembly lawmaker in court on Tuesday.
Mazari is accused of land grabbing and was arrested last night in Lahore.
During today’s hearing, the anti-corruption lawyer requested the physical remand of Mazari to complete the investigation.
The former deputy speaker’s lawyer opposed the remand and said that the investigation of the case had been completed and that the request for physical remand should be rejected.
Mazari was removed as PA deputy speaker through a no-confidence motion by PTI and allies back in July. He ruled in favour of PML-N’s Hamza Shahbaz in the CM election.
