Celebrities react to Shahrukh Jatoi’s acquittal

Shahrukh Jatoi and other suspects in the Shahzeb murder case were acquitted by the Supreme Court on Tuesday, almost 10 years after the murder in Karachi’s upscale neighbourhood which unleashed rage in society.

There was an outpouring of sentiment on Twitter.

Mahira Khan called the decision a power play.

While Haroon Shahid advised people to pack up and leave the country for the sake of their children.

Actress Mawra Hocane said that no law is protecting us anymore.

Civil rights activist and lawyer Jibran Nasir said we can only do so much as a society and concerned citizens until our laws change.

Sawaal Yeh Hai host Maria Memon asked if this means more murderers will go free.

Shahzeb Khan’s murder

Shahzeb Khan, 20, the son of a police official, was killed on December 24, 2012, in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority. He was returning home with his sister from a wedding.

He was killed for picking a fight with one of the suspects’ servants, who had verbally threatened and harassed his sister.

The media reported that the prime suspect belonged to powerful feudal families in Sindh.
