Mahira Khan responds to criticism on attending HUM awards in Toronto

Actress Mahira Khan responded to criticism by a social media user regarding helping the flood victims and said that “The unkind commentary never ends”.

Celebrities have received harsh online criticism for attending an award ceremony abroad when Pakistan is experiencing extensive and destructive flooding.

When it was made clear a few days ago that the HUM Awards were giving a portion of the revenues to charity, many attendees, including Mahira Khan, were nevertheless criticized.

The altercation started with a tweet by the entertainment site Lollywood Space in which they shared some highlights of Mahira Khan attending the Hum Award show in Toronto recently.

Commenting on the post, writer and lawyer Rafia Zakaria wrote, “It is sad that Pakistani TV drama stars are showing themselves as international celebrities on a small red carpet in a corner of suburban Toronto.”

In response to the comments regarding Mahira’s clothes, Rafia Zakaria sarcastically said that Mahira will give these clothes to the flood victims and everything will be okay.

Mahira responded by saying “It’s never okay for us, the artists of your country! I have and will continue to do my part.”

She said that if it makes them happy, she could take photos but then it would be “showing off doing charity”. Khan added, “unkind commentary never ends. You do you. I will do me.”

Mahira further wrote that the cruel comments will never end, you do your work and I will do mine.
