ISLAMABAD: A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan on Sunday for threatening Islamabad police officers and a female magistrate, during his speech a day earlier, under Section 7 of the anti-terrorism act.
The FIR, registered on the complaint of Magistrate Ali Javed in Islamabad’s Margalla Police Station, stated that Imran Khan’s speech was aimed to spread unrest and terror among the people.
“At the PTI’s rally at F-9 park a day ago, Imran Khan, during his address, had suddenly started frightening and threatening top police officials and respected female additional sessions judge,” it stated.
Following the registration of FIR against Imran Khan, Islamabad Police late night beefed up security around his Bani Gala residence.
According to the police sources, the route leading to Imran Khan’s house has been closed for unauthorised people, allowing only people close to him and the residents of the area to enter due to security concerns.
The streetlights on the road from Imran Khan Chowk to his residence were also switched off around midnight.
PTI workers started gathering at Imran Khan Chowk after the road was blocked from Bani Gala Chowk.
Meanwhile, PTI leader Murad Saeed, confirmed in his tweet that orders have been issued for the arrest of Imran Khan.
A day earlier, Imran Khan while addressing the rally held to show solidarity with his party leader Dr Shahbaz Gill at F-9 Park said that his party would move the Supreme Court against Gill’s arrest and alleged torture, and would also seek legal action against the Islamabad police chief and his deputy as well as the magistrate who sent Shahbaz Gill on physical remand.
“If a case can be registered against Gill, then, Fazlur Rehman, Nawaz Sharif, and Rana Sanaullah will also face judicial proceedings,” the PTI chairperson had said.
PEMRA bans live broadcast of Imran Khan’s speeches
Earlier today (Sunday), the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority prohibited the broadcast of live speeches of PTI Chairman Imran Khan on all satellite TV channels with immediate effect following the latter’s apparent threat speech on Saturday.
PEMRA said that only recorded speech would be permitted to be aired after ensuring effective monitoring and editorial control in conformity with PEMRA laws.
The government also held legal consultations on whether to file a separate case against PTI chief for his “provocative speech” a day ago or that a reference be added to the existing case, the interior minister said.
Sources said that the Ministry of Law and senior police officials participated in the meeting held at the Ministry of Interior, in which options regarding legal action against Imran Khan were considered.
