Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb countered on Saturday accussations that PTI leader Shahbaz Gill, Imran Khan’s pointperson, was tortured while in police custody, saying that the PTI chief was using ‘propaganda’ to deflect attention from the prohibited funding case.
The government spokesperson, who was addressing a press conference in Islamabad. shared images and a 19 second video clip of Gill that was recorded ‘hours ago’.
In the images, Gill can be seen reviewing a file and sitting on a stretcher. The video shows him standing and reviewing the same file with a policeman.
Marriyum said that the video indicated that the PTI leader was in good health, while rubbishing claims that he was tortured in custody.
“I want to categorically say that torture shouldn’t happen against anyone but it didn’t happen in this instance [with Gill]. It is just propaganda,” she said.
In what appeared to be a rhetorical question, she inquired whether anyone had seen footage of Gill being tortured. She suggested that
The minister further claimed that Imran Khan was using Gill’s arrest to divert attention from his party’s prohibited funding case.
“The case is in court and news channels should avoid sharing fabricated news,” she said.
