ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet Tuesday approved placing 10 names, including former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s advisor on accountability Shahzad Akbar, in the no-fly list.

The cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House also approved the exclusion of 22 people from the Exit Control List (ECL) and accorded one-time permission to three people on the recommendation of the interior ministry.

Earlier in April this year, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) order of placing the name of Shehzad Akbar, Shehbaz Gill and four other former government members on no-fly list.

The federal cabinet, during its today’s meeting, unanimously rejected the summary of further increase in the prices of 35 medicines and said that there will be no increase in the prices of medicines.

The meeting was given a detailed briefing about the impact of climate change on Pakistan.

It was told that there was an immediate need to implement the mitigation and adaptation strategy regarding climate change.

PM Shehbaz said that climate change, water security and food security were three interconnected challenges and to cope with these issues, they would have to take immediate steps to save future generations from their impacts.

The prime minister said the government was fully cognizant of these problems and resolution of these issues was among the government’s top priorities.

It was proposed that a detailed documentary regarding awareness about climate change challenges confronting Pakistan and various steps taken by the government to prevent the negative impact of this challenge should be presented at international forums.

It was stressed that climate change should be included to the curriculum of schools and colleges. It also called for ensuring the implementation of policies evolved for the prevention of the negative impact of climate change.

The cabinet stressed the need for planning rain harvesting and it also considered a proposal regarding launching a pilot project in Islamabad.

It approved constituting a cabinet committee to be headed by Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman and comprising concerned ministers that will present its recommendations regarding the short, medium and long term projects in this regard.
