‘No one is infallible’, says Imran in defence of u-turns

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan said on Saturday that politicians as well as generals ought to backtrak when they make a mistake as ‘no one is infallible’.

The former prime minister said this while speaking at an event of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists in Islamabad.

The embattled politician had stern words for the Establishment, a euphemism used to refer to the army, saying that their actions were having an adverse impact on the country.

On the recent measures taken by the government to crack down on defamatory content on social media in an attempt to ‘control the flow of information’, he said that such efforts would be futile. “You can try as much as you want but you cannot control social media.”

Imran Khan said that during his tenure he spoke to the army chief and the ISI head at the time, General Faiz, after which some ‘missing persons’ were released. ‘Missing persons’ is another euphemism in Pakistan that primarily used in connection with people from Balochistan or other areas who are believed to in the custody of the military albeit illegally.

Imran also repeated his foreign-funded conspiracy claim, which he claims brought about the ‘regime change’ that led to his ouster through a vote of no confidence earlier this month.
