Karachi’s DHA receives unprecedented rain in 1st monsoon spell

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has released rainfall data for July 11 in Karachi. At least 127 millimetres (mm) of rain fell in Karachi’s Defense Housing Authority (DHA) while Faisal Base and Masroor base received 100 and 72 mm of rain respectively.

The high volumes of rainwater flooded most of DHA, with Phase II receiving the most amount of rain.

The rainfall in DHA was almost as much as what the whole of Karachi usually sees.

Eid-ul-Azha celebrations were disrupted while power supply also remained suspended in most areas of Karachi for over eight to 10 hours.

In the last 24 hours, North Karachi saw 50mm of rainfall while Surjani Town received 38 mm of recorded rainfall.

Karachi’s University Road received 35mm of rain while Attock saw 65 mm rainfall during the last 24 hours.

In other parts of the country, Chaklala Base received 35mm while Shamsabad in Rawalpindi received 15mm of rain.

Islamabad received 45 mm of rain. Bannu received 28 mm of rain and Charat 25 mm. Armara and Panjgur received 25 mm of rainfall each.
