Karachi has accounted for more than half of the 650 coronavirus cases reported over the last 24 hours, the health ministry data showed.
“Total tests in last 24 hours: 16,755; positive cases: 650; positivity %: 3.88%; deaths: 02; patients on critical care: 138,” the National Institute of Health said in a tweet on Sunday.
The tally was lower than the update reported on Saturday when four people died and the positivity ratio increased by over four per cent.
Earlier this week, the government decided to conduct coronavirus tests in all provinces in order to overcome the outbreak. It also decided to start vaccinating of children from 5 to 11 years in one to two months.
The World Health Organisation felicitated the government on July 1 for administering 270 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
“This milestone indicates the tremendous efforts made in ensuring that everyone across the country had access to Covid-19 vaccination including hard-to-reach areas,” Dr Palitha Gunarathna Mahipala, the WHO representative in Pakistan, said in a tweet.
