Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson Imran Khan slammed on Tuesday the coalition government over changes to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) laws, saying he would challenge the amendments in the Supreme Court.
“I will not keep mum on the NAB amendments. I will consult every constitutional and law forum,” the PTI chairman said while addressing a press conference in Islamabad.
On his political rivals, Imran said that he knew that the current rulers would protect themselves after coming into power. “They are trying to end their pending cases under the guise of reforms,” he said, adding that he would continue his struggle against the ‘corrupt rulers’.
He said that the incumbent rulers should be jailed for what they did to the NAB law. “No one in the country should be allowed to make changes to the laws for personal gains.”
The ousted premier said that the changes provided relief to the leaders in assets beyond means cases against them.
A day earlier, President Arif Alvi had refused to approve the NAB amendment bill for a second time and returned it to the prime minister. It was sent to the president following the approval of the bill in the joint session of the Parliament on July 9.
The president in his reply termed the proposed law “regressive” in nature, saying that it would promote corruption.
NAB would now not be dealing with money laundering cases and these cases would be transferred to Federal Investigation Agency, Imran Khan said.
“THe FIA is already working under Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and now the NAB will also be working under the interior minister,” he pointed out.
He went on to say that after the amendments, the accountability watchdog would have to prove how a person accumulated wealth through fake accounts.
The PTI chairman said the country’s development comes with the rule of law and rule of law means no one is above the law.
