KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh Assembly member Shabir Qureshi was arrested from Karachi over charges of allegedly harassing a woman, the police said on Sunday.
Police said that last night they arrested Qureshi from outside his residence in Clifton.
“A woman had complained to the SITE police station, alleging that the lawmaker lured her with a job offer and sexually assaulted her,” the police said.
PTI’s Dr Saeed Afridi, Shahnawaz Jadoon and others reached the police station and sought details from the police about the arrest.
President PTI Sindh Ali Zaidi, Haleem Adil Sheikh and other leaders including Imran Ismail condemned the arrest.
Meanwhile, former Sindh governor and PTI leader Imran Ismail, in a video statement, said that the police arrested Qureshi at the behest of the Sindh government and demanded his immediate release.
