Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says India has unleashed its brute and oppressive state apparatus to browbeat Indian Muslims into submission.
“The whole plan is to further marginalize Muslims politically, economically and culturally,” the premier said in a tweet on Monday.
He said that the recent incidents PM Shehbaz said the reality of India’s “democratic face” is before the world to see.
The prime minister’s statement came after the demolition of several Muslim homes in India’s Uttar Pradesh state.
Earlier on Sunday, local authorities in Uttar Pradesh had demolished several Muslim-owned houses, alleging that they had been illegally constructed - a claim denied by some of the owners. The houses were owned by activists who were part of the protest.
Muslims are protesting across India against the anti-Islamic remarks of two BJP leaders Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal.
BJP has suspended Sharma and Jindal over the remarks.
Meanwhile, Islamic countries had also strongly condemned the Islamophobic remarks made by BJP leaders with various countries summoning India’s envoy and demanding a public apology.
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari a day earlier during a telephonic conversation with OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha, urged the Organization to take immediate cognizance of the aggravating situation of Islamophobia in India and to step up their efforts for protecting the life, dignity, property, culture, heritage and religious freedom of the Indian Muslims.
