KARACHI: Protesters have set a police vehicle ablaze at Karachi’s Numaish area following clashes with police.
Hundreds of PTI supporters had gathered at Numaish on the call of Imran Khan in support of their party’s long march to Islamabad.
The area resounded with sounds of gunfire as police resorted to aerial firing and shelling to disperse protesters.
Visuals from the protest site showed PTI leader Ali Zaidi, visibly suffering from the impact of shelling, being escorted by party workers.
PTI leader injured
Earlier, PTI MPA Dua Bhutto was injured as police baton-charged and fired tear gas at activists at Karachi’s Numaish Chowrangi for the Imran Khan-led “Azadi March”.
Police detained at least 25 activists, as clashes broke out at the main point where the crowd gathered in Karachi.
They were mostly women activists and leaders of the PTI.
They threw stones and bottles at the police, who responded with aerial firing to disperse the crowd.
Those at the protest said people were taken into custody for raising pro-PTI slogans.
