Karachi: The city of lights is in the grip of an intense heatwave where the best shelter people can find is in their homes; however, with over six to eight hours of load-shedding, even houses have become ovens and offer no respite.
There is no peace at any point in the day or night and the heat is also affecting women who stay at home.
Power outages in Liaqatabad, Golimar, Nazimabad and Surjani Town are wreaking havoc on people’s life. Orangi Town, Banaras, Gulshan and Malir are other areas that are facing extreme load-shedding.
Old city areas including Burns Road are also facing power cuts. Despite prolonged power outages in many areas of the city, K-Electric says most of the city is receiving power.
Last month, the energy shortfall had exceeded 7,000 megawatts resulting in seven to 10 hours of power outages in most areas in Karachi.
Low bill recovery areas have observed longer power cuts.
Ali Hashmi, the Media and PR General Manager of K Electric said that due to Kunda (illegal electricity connections) there is load-shedding in some areas which would eventually be resolved after K Electric lay new electricity cables in these areas.
